Today I want to talk to you about Flutter. The latest mobile development SDK from Google. Just to let you know, all I'm gonna say in this article is all a matter of Opinion.
When flutter was announced last year, I was kinda excited about it. Personally , I started mobile app development on the Xamarin framework from Microsoft, and I must say, the journey was exciting.
Like any other thing, Xamarin isn’t perfect, It has its own flaws and weaknesses. Xamarin developers can a testify to what I’m saying. Xamarin apps just don’t give us that native performance. These apps are mostly slow, especially where I live, Kenya. I mean, in Africa, most people don’t have mobile devices with high processing power and extremely long battery lives. So this being the case, I got excited about flutter. First because google promised that it would provide native performance regardless of the device one is using. All developers everywhere know that performance is key, in anything. Bad performance sucks!
I’ve been using flutter since 2019 started and I must say, it’s quite impressive. It’s easier to make beautiful apps with high performance in flutter. To me, flutter is the future of mobile app development. Being cross platform, flutter currently allows users to create apps for Apple iOS and Google Android with the same business logic, or rather , with the same code base. This allows saving of costs to develop and maintain different applications both for the two platforms. Of course there have been other cross-platform development technologies before, like Xamarin Forms as I mentioned earlier ad other technologies as well. But none of those technologies do it the way flutter does it. It’s simply the best compared to all of the others, at least for me. Native performance is just on another level.
